Woodlark survey

Woodlark © Derek Belsey The British Trust for Ornithology and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds have organised a Woodlark survey nationally and Peter Hutchins was allocated four square kilometers to survey in the parish. These were sited about Lower Whitehill, the northern part of the village, farmland immediately north of the village and Willesley Warren.

Woodlarks have been primarily recorded in heathland and forestry plantation clearings but more recently the species has been recorded in other habitats such as farmland. Surveying in Overton contributes to confirm how far the species has spread into these other habitats.

The survey window was between 15th Feb and 31st May 2006.

Below are Peter's reports on his outings.
