June 2008

1st
Lily Beetles continued to 'plague' several village gardens, as did 'blackfly'on members' Broad Beans.
2nd
a Little Owl was seen in the woodland off Copse Road, a new site for this species within the village.
4th
a bat was seen over Station Hill, presumably one of the pipistrelles, but possibly something less frequent.
11th
a Little Owl was heard in the very small hours, thought to be in the Court Farm House / St. Mary's Church area. Later in the day the Bridge Street Chiffchaff was still in song.
13th
Small Copper Goldfinch continued to visit Cornflower heads in Station Hill gardens.

14th
Long-tailed Tits were noted moving through gardens in the north of the village.
20th
a Water Vole showed well by The Test to several lucky observers.
21st
a Song Thrush was not unexpected, but it being in song was unforeseen.
22nd
Pyramidal Orchid were in flower in the verge of Kingsclere Road, a little north of the railway bridge.
23rd
a Buzzard was over Woodlands post-school time with 11 Black-headed Gull west / south-west there in the evening.
24th
a Red Kite was seen over Overton Hill mid-morning whilst a Grey Heron moved low west over Town Meadow in the evening.
27th
Evening Primrose were in flower at the northern end of Straight Lane.
28th
a Slow Worm was found in a compost heap in Lordsfield Gardens.
29th
Burnished Brass a dead Stoat was an unexpected find in a Bridge Street garden whilst a happier moment was noted with one crossing the road at Nutley Bottom. Mullein Moth larvae were feeding on Dark Mullein off the Kingsclere Road, just north of the village.
30th
a pair of Collared Dove was in the process of nest building in Battens Avenue. A Burnished Brass was new for the year in Woodlands, as was a Brown Leafhopper.
