Woodlark survey
The British Trust for Ornithology and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds have organised a Woodlark survey and Peter Hutchins has been allocated four square kilometers to survey in the parish. These are sited about Lower Whitehill, the northern part of the village, farmland immediately north of the village and Willesley Warren.
The survey will take place between 15th Feb and 31st May. If any of you would like to participate in this survey, please call Peter at any stage. All visits to sites will be during the morning and will be on milder, calm and brighter days. Due to the latter requirements each piece of survey work may well be done at relatively short notice but Peter will call anybody interested as soon as he knows that he will be going out. There will be at least two visits to each 1km square, allowing ample time to make the most of this opportunity to sample the local wildlife in its habitats.

Woodlarks have been primarily recorded in heathland and forestry plantation clearings but more recently the species has been recorded in other habitats such as farmland. Surveying in Overton will contribute to confirm how far the species has spread into these other habitats.
Helping with the survey will allow you to get out and about areas that are not readily accessible and to see a wide range of the local wildlife that may well normally go undetected.
